Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN, denies allegations linking him to Bobrisky after an audio clip released by social activist Very Dark Man. Falana demands an apology and threatens civil litigation if retraction isn’t made, aiming to protect his and his son, Falz’s, reputation from defamation.
Femi Falana, SAN, a prominent human rights lawyer, has denied any association with crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky. This reaction comes after social activist Very Dark Man (VDM) released an alleged audio conversation claiming Falana and his son, Falz, were involved in securing a presidential pardon for Bobrisky while he served time in Kirikiri prison.
Falana, speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today, stated he had never talked to Bobrisky or assisted him. He emphasized that his son, Falz, also declined Bobrisky's request for money to receive VIP treatment in prison.
Both Falana and his son demanded an apology and retraction from VDM within 24 hours, threatening legal action. VDM argued he released the audio for investigative purposes. Despite this, Falana plans to pursue civil litigation if the apology is not forthcoming.
The legal luminary clarified that this case is not a criminal complaint but a civil one, aimed at restoring their reputations and setting an example to discourage defamation via social media.
Falana concluded, "We want a retraction and an apology. If we don't receive that, civil proceedings will follow." He intends to ensure that public figures are not defamed without consequences, particularly on social platforms.
