Sean Kingston and his mother, Janice Turner, face charges of wire fraud in Miami federal court. They are accused of defrauding sellers of high-end goods worth over $1 million. If convicted, they could each face up to 20 years in prison. Kingston is currently on probation for trafficking stolen property.
Sean Kingston, the well-known Jamaican-American singer, and his mother, Janice Turner, face serious legal troubles. They were indicted on Friday in a Miami federal court for their alleged involvement in a $1 million wire fraud scheme.
Kingston, whose real name is Kisean Anderson, and his 61-year-old mother were arrested in May and now face one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and five counts of wire fraud. The charges stem from their alleged attempt to defraud sellers of high-end vehicles, jewelry, and other luxury items using fraudulent documents.
The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida stated that Kingston and Turner falsely claimed to have executed bank wire transfers as payments for these expensive goods. However, the payments never actually went through, allowing them to acquire over $1 million in property unjustly.
If found guilty, both Kingston and Turner could face up to 20 years in prison for each count. Kingston is already on probation for a prior offense involving trafficking stolen property, while Turner has a history of bank fraud, having served time in 2006. Sean Kingston rose to fame with his 2007 hit song "Beautiful Girls" and is also known for tracks like "Take You There" and his collaboration with Justin Bieber on "Eenie Meenie."
