Nigerian-American singer Korra Obidi faces backlash for taking Hawaii vacation after raising $50,000 on GoFundMe for custody battle legal fees.
Nigerian-American singer and dancer Korra Obidi has sparked outrage on social media after flying to Hawaii shortly after raising $50,000 through a GoFundMe campaign. The campaign, which aimed to raise $100,000 for legal fees in her ongoing custody battle with ex-husband Justin Dean, received donations from over 950 people worldwide.
Obidi had initially stated that the funds were necessary to secure a "good lawyer" and fight for her rights as a mother. "It's time to fight for myself and my kids," she said, sharing the GoFundMe account details and seeking assistance from fans and friends. However, just days after reaching the $50,000 mark, Obidi revealed during a live session on Facebook that she had planned a vacation in Hawaii.
This decision has drawn widespread criticism from her followers, with many accusing her of deception and misusing the funds for personal indulgence rather than legal representation. A Facebook user, expressed disappointment, saying, "She got y'all's money, and now she's at the airport. Some of you are too weak to believe her foolishness. She is always begging, scamming, and manipulating."
Others echoed similar sentiments calling her a "professional beggar on social media," and suggesting that people should report the GoFundMe to get their money back.
Amidst the backlash, some supporters defended Obidi, like Mary Monique Napont, who stated, "She is an influencer, performer, student, and most importantly a great mother. Leave her be. You are a part of the problem."
The divorce and custody battle between Obidi and Dean has been public, with recent developments granting Dean the right to restrict their children from appearing in Obidi's online content. Obidi had previously accused Dean of abuse and "gaslighting" during their marriage.
