In a bid to address speculation and dispel concerns of political motives, the Federal Government has clarified that the planned relocation of the headquarters of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and certain departments of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to Lagos is purely an administrative move geared towards enhancing operational efficiency and reducing operating costs.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, issued a statement on Sunday, January 28, asserting that the decision had no political undertone and was not an attempt to marginalize any specific region. He emphasized that the move was rooted in a pragmatic approach to streamline operations and optimize resources.
Addressing the allegations of political maneuvering, Idris stated, "It is not true that the relocation to Lagos of the Headquarters of FAAN and certain departments of the CBN are political moves aimed at marginalizing a section of the country. These allegations are unfounded. Instead, these are pragmatic administrative steps to improve operational efficiency and reduce operating costs."
In urging Nigerians to be cautious of false claims propagated through various media channels, the Minister highlighted the need for unity amidst diversity. He emphasized the collective responsibility of all citizens in building a cohesive and prosperous Nigeria.
"Nigeria belongs to all of us, and the work of building the Nigeria of our dreams is one that must be done by everyone, regardless of our religious faith or ethnic group or geopolitical zone," said Idris.
The Minister drew attention to the unifying power of shared national accomplishments, citing the impressive performance of the Super Eagles at the ongoing African Cup of Nations in Cote d'Ivoire as an example. He encouraged citizens to focus on the common ground that binds them, emphasizing that unity and hope prevail over division and hatred.
