Justice Hamza Muazu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court has approved the request of the immediate past Governor of the Central Bank, Godwin Emefiele, to travel outside the FCT. However, the court has mandated that Emefiele remains within the country.
This decision comes as a variation to his bail terms, which initially restricted him to the FCT. Emefiele's lawyer, Mathew Bukka, SAN, presented the request, and it was unopposed by the Counsel of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN. Oyedepo emphasized the importance of Emefiele providing a written undertaking to remain in the country.
Notably, the charges against Emefiele have been amended to 20 from the initial 6, encompassing offenses such as criminal breach of trust, forgery, conspiracy to commit forgery, procurement fraud, and conspiracy to commit felony. Stay tuned for further updates on this evolving legal saga
