In a recent court hearing at the Lagos High Court Sitting in Ikeja, John Ayoh, a former Director of Information Technology at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), testified against former CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele.
Ayoh alleged that Emefiele had a practice of accepting bribes before awarding contracts, stating, "That is how he operates, he will not award contracts without collecting anything." Ayoh recounted instances where he collected money on Emefiele's behalf, including $400,000 and $200,000. Despite denying direct involvement in any crime, Ayoh admitted to facilitating unlawful acts under pressure.
Under cross-examination, he clarified that while he did not specify in his statement that the funds influenced contract awards, he asserted that it was standard practice for Emefiele.
This testimony sheds light on alleged corruption within the CBN during Emefiele's tenure and raises questions about the integrity of contract procurement processes.
