Former Governor Yahaya Bello has raised concerns over what he perceives as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission's (EFCC) disregard for court orders, particularly in their attempt to arrest him at his Abuja residence. In a statement released by his media aide, Onogwu Muhammed, Bello called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene and restrain the EFCC from flouting the rule of law.

Bello emphasized that Nigeria is not a lawless country and expressed disappointment in the EFCC's alleged disobedience to court orders. He suggested that the EFCC's leadership might have been influenced by desperate politicians to misuse the agency as a tool for settling scores, regardless of its impact on Nigeria's integrity and adherence to the rule of law.

The statement highlighted the potential consequences of law enforcement agencies disregarding the rule of law, warning that it could lead to anarchy and adversely affect the nation's economy. Bello also accused the EFCC of targeting him with spurious allegations dating back to before his tenure as governor, suggesting a concerted effort to embarrass and harass him.

Despite a court injunction restraining the EFCC from harassing or arresting him, Bello claimed that EFCC operatives arrived at his residence to effect his arrest. He criticized the EFCC for disregarding the court order and emphasized the importance of upholding the principle of equity in law enforcement.

The statement concluded by urging the EFCC to uphold the rule of law and maintain its integrity in the fight against corruption. It called for accountability and adherence to court orders, emphasizing that those tasked with enforcing the law must themselves abide by it.
