Former INEC Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, has called for a thorough examination of the issues surrounding the failure to upload presidential election results to the INEC results viewing portal (IReV). Jega, in an interview with ARISE Television, acknowledged the challenges faced during the general election and emphasized the importance of scrutinizing the cause of result uploading failures.
Jega stressed the need for fair assessments and said, "And if you are so confident with the planning process, and at the end of it all, there is a failure somewhere, you will take the blame because you are the leader." He clarified that such failures might not necessarily imply deliberate compromise but should be investigated transparently.
The former INEC chairman also commented on the performance of the card reader, noting that it had a 95 percent success rate during the election, despite the focus on the 5 percent where it failed. Jega mentioned the importance of the BVAS, developed to replace the card reader, in enhancing the electoral process.
He particularly emphasized the need to investigate the specific reasons for the failure of result uploading, especially in the presidential election. Such an inquiry, Jega believed, would lead to revelations and help assign responsibility for the failure accurately
