Former Nigerian Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, is alive and well, according to a statement by his personal aide, Adeyeye E. Ajayi. The announcement comes in response to rumors circulating on social media that General Gowon had passed away.
Ajayi issued a brief statement late Monday night assuring the public that General Gowon is "still around and well" and not in any hurry to depart. Additionally, the Delta State governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi, corroborated this information, dispelling the rumors as the work of mischief-makers.
Gbagi's Chief Press Secretary, Orusi Kenneth, confirmed that General Gowon is alive, in good health, and presently in London. He urged Nigerians to disregard the false reports and affirmed that he had personally spoken with General Gowon.
The former chairman of the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria emphasized that General Gowon is very much alive, and there is no basis for the rumors of his death. The assurance from both his aide and Gbagi should put an end to the speculations regarding General Gowon's well-being.
