In a recent development, Ibe Kachikwu, the former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, has been implicated in the ongoing criminal case against Diezani Alison-Madueke, as reported by The Cable. The UK court process reveals that Kachikwu, along with Benedict Peters, CEO of Aiteo, and Haruna Momoh, former Managing Director of Pipelines and Product Marketing Company (PPMC), were mentioned in the case.
Diezani Alison-Madueke, who served as Nigeria's Minister of Petroleum Resources from 2010 to 2015, faces charges related to receiving bribes in the form of cash, luxury items, private jet flights, and the use of high-end properties in the UK in exchange for awarding oil contracts.
According to the court document, Kachikwu was allegedly bribed in August 2015 with the intention of influencing his capacity as a foreign public official, a violation of sections 6 and 11 of the Bribery Act 2010.
Diezani Alison-Madueke was recently granted a £70,000 bail in a UK court over a £100,000 bribery allegation. She appeared before Michael Snow of the Westminster Magistrates Court and was granted bail under certain conditions, including wearing an electronic tag and wearing a curfew between 11 pm and 6 am.
Several other Nigerians, including Olatimbo Bukola Ayinde and Doye Agama, are also named in the court process related to Alison-Madueke's scandal. Many Nigerian politicians are currently facing legal battles, particularly in the UK, on corruption and money laundering charges.
