Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo advocates for urgent legislative support to aid kidney disease patients and tackle the rising issue of organ trafficking in the country.
Speaking at the 36th Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference of the National Association of Nephrology, Obasanjo emphasized the need for a multifaceted approach to address the burden of kidney disease, highlighting prevention, early detection, and treatment strategies.
He commended the association's efforts in advocacy and screening while urging increased support for dialysis and transplantation services, particularly for children.
Additionally, Obasanjo called for a review of relevant laws to address organ trafficking, considering cultural and societal factors.
