Former South African president Jacob Zuma has announced his disassociation from the African National Congress (ANC) and revealed plans to establish a new political entity named uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK), a nod to the former armed wing of the ANC.
Zuma, who served as the country's president from 2009 to 2018, expressed his refusal to support the ANC under President Cyril Ramaphosa, deeming it a betrayal.
In a charged statement, Zuma declared the start of a "new people's war" through the ballot, criticizing the current ANC's deviation from its historical roots.
Highlighting dissatisfaction with the ANC's leadership and a perceived shift away from its original values, Zuma asserted his intent to "rescue" the organization.
The announcement adds a complex layer to the political landscape as South Africa braces for the upcoming national elections, anticipating heightened competition among political factions.
