Retired Brigadier General Uwem Udokwere was fatally stabbed by robbers at his Abuja home. The police have arrested four suspects. This tragic incident has sparked concerns about security in the Lokogoma area.
Retired Brigadier General Uwem Udokwere, 70, was tragically stabbed to death by unidentified robbers at his home in Sunshine Home Estate, Abuja. According to the FCT Police Command spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, the incident occurred at approximately 3 a.m., prompting Police Commissioner Benneth Igweh to order a thorough investigation.
Mr. Udokwere, a father of two, was attacked when he attempted to protect his family. The estate’s security guard reported seeing three robbers attempting to enter the compound. Upon hearing the commotion, Mr. Udokwere confronted the intruders and was fatally stabbed.
Benedicta Odeigba, the Vice Chairman of the estate, recounted how the general’s wife had alerted her by phone during the attack. This incident marks the third time their home has been targeted. Odeigba also described the bravery of security guard Ihakuo Umar, who was assaulted and tied up by the robbers.
Residents of the Lokogoma area, where the estate is located, have reported frequent robbery incidents, particularly around the Peace Corps junction. Despite the immediate police response during the robbery, Mr. Udokwere succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital.
Four suspects have been arrested in connection with the crime: Ibrahim Rabiu, Nafiu Jamil, Aliyu Abdullahi, and Mohammed Nuhu, all of whom have confessed. The community remains shaken, highlighting ongoing concerns about security in the area.
