The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) reported a tragic incident on the Abuja-Kaduna expressway, where a DAF trailer crashed, resulting in the death of 10 passengers and injuring 48 others.
According to FRSC's Public Education Officer, Jonas Agwu, the accident was attributed to excessive speed, overloading, and driver fatigue. The driver lost control of the vehicle around 10:30 a.m., causing it to veer off the road and into a ditch.
The injured victims were promptly evacuated to St. Anthony and Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Hospitals in Kaduna for medical attention. FRSC's Corps Marshal, Dauda Ali-Biu, emphasized the need for nationwide enforcement against speeding, overloading, and reckless driving, urging sector commanders to implement result-oriented patrol operations with mobile courts along critical corridors.
Ali-Biu also emphasized the importance of cautioning trailer drivers against transporting passengers atop goods in their vehicles to prevent such tragedies in the future. Efforts are ongoing to ensure the injured victims receive the necessary medical care.
