Microsoft has revealed plans to lay off 1,900 employees at Activision Blizzard and Xbox. This move, constituting approximately 8% of the Microsoft Gaming division, comes just three months after the completion of Microsoft's $68.7 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
The internal memo from Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer underlines the commitment to a sustainable cost structure and outlines support for the impacted workforce. The restructuring also includes the departure of Blizzard president Mike Ybarra and the cancellation of a planned survival game.
This strategic realignment aims to position Microsoft for future growth but marks a challenging day for the gaming industry.
