German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is set to begin a three-day official visit to Nigeria on December 10 and conclude on December 12, 2024. The German Embassy in Abuja confirmed his arrival in a statement on Monday, outlining a packed agenda aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and fostering economic and cultural collaborations.
President Steinmeier will first meet with Nigerian President Bola Tinubu and Dr. Alieu Touray, President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, in Abuja. Discussions will focus on enhancing diplomatic relations and addressing shared regional challenges.
Following his engagements in Abuja, Steinmeier will travel to Lagos, where he is scheduled to interact with business leaders, explore a thriving start-up hub, and meet prominent Nigerian cultural figures, including artist Dr. Nike Okundaye and Nobel laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka. His visit to Lagos will also involve touring the city to understand its urban development landscape, encompassing environmental and social challenges faced by Africa’s largest metropolis.
Accompanying the German President is a delegation of CEOs and senior executives from leading German companies specializing in IT, high-tech, and energy. This underscores Germany’s growing interest in Nigeria as an investment destination and highlights opportunities for collaboration in key sectors.
