Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yayaha Bello, has reportedly issued queries to eight out of the nine Local Government Chairmen in the Eastern Senatorial District for their failure to secure victories for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the recent Governorship election. The queried chairmen, representing Omala, Ofu, Dekina, Ankpa, Olamaboro, Ibaji, Igalame/Odolu, and Idah local government areas, faced criticism during a stakeholders' meeting where Governor Bello expressed disappointment for their inability to deliver their respective areas for the party despite mobilization efforts.

Governor Bello demanded explanations for the poor performance and alleged financial misconduct. He accused the chairmen of collecting money from the Minister of Steel Development, Prince Shuaib Abubarkar Audu, under the guise of "mobilization votes," with the funds purportedly ending up in private pockets. Bello emphasized the misuse of mobilization funds and hinted at possible consequences, including early removal from office before the expiration of their tenure in December 2023. The chairmen are reportedly expected to respond to a questionnaire by midday Tuesday, raising speculation about potential consequences, including a refund of the mobilization funds.
