Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun dismisses social media criticism over road conditions, citing significant infrastructure achievements and revenue growth. Addressing youth organizations, he calls for constructive engagement with the government instead of protests, emphasizing dialogue for resolving Nigeria's issues.
Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has addressed the recent social media backlash regarding the deplorable condition of roads in the state. Despite trending on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) with criticisms over his administration's handling of road infrastructure, Abiodun remains unfazed. He acknowledged that pictures and videos of poor road conditions in areas like Yakoyo, Alagbole, and Akute have gone viral, highlighting the frustration of commuters.
In response, Abiodun's administration showcased its achievements, stating it has completed 600 kilometers of road projects in the past five years. During a meeting with a coalition of youth organizations, Abiodun emphasized his commitment to improving the state's infrastructure and addressed the upcoming #EndBadGovernance protest planned for August 1.
Abiodun recounted the challenges he faced to become governor and underscored his resolve not to be deterred by anonymous social media critics. He highlighted the increase in the state's Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) from N50 billion to nearly N200 billion under his administration, attributing it to his proactive governance.
The governor appealed to Nigerian youths to engage constructively with the government to find lasting solutions to the nation's problems rather than resorting to protests. Citing the destructive outcomes of the EndSARS protests in 2020, Abiodun argued that mass protests often exacerbate issues instead of resolving them. He urged for dialogue and constructive engagement, emphasizing that Nigeria is their home and must be preserved through collaborative efforts.
