Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State swore in nine commissioners on Friday, all previously loyalists of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike. The commissioners had resigned during the peak of the crisis between Minister Wike and Governor Fubara, a conflict that drew the intervention of President Bola Tinubu.
The resolution, brokered by President Tinubu, included an eight-point agreement, one of which involved the re-absorption of Wike's loyalists who had previously departed from Fubara's cabinet. The swearing-in ceremony at the Government House in Port Harcourt marked a significant step towards political reconciliation within the state.
During the ceremony, Governor Fubara emphasized the importance of the newly sworn-in commissioners making positive contributions that future generations would remember. Despite acknowledging the challenges and tensions surrounding their return, Fubara encouraged the commissioners to stand for justice and prioritize the interests of Rivers State.
While addressing the commissioners, Governor Fubara expressed understanding for their predicament, stating, "I can see how heavy your hearts are. But I assure you that I don’t have anything against anyone of you. You were caught in between during the crossfire."
He further advised them to give their best and urged them to be remembered for their positive contributions to the state. The swearing-in ceremony serves as a notable chapter in the ongoing political dynamics of Rivers State, highlighting the complexities and efforts toward reconciliation amid the shifting alliances within the state's political landscape.
