Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State expressed profound gratitude to his supporters following his re-election. The governor, who assumed office in 2020 amidst legal turmoil, found solace and affirmation in the recent Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announcement declaring him the winner of the Imo governorship election.
Uzodimma's political journey took a significant turn in 2020 when the Supreme Court nullified Emeka Ihedioha's victory, paving the way for Uzodimma to become the governor. However, it was on Sunday that the governor, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), received a resounding mandate from the people as he triumphed across all 27 local government areas of the South-East state.
In a moment of reflection during a thanksgiving service in Owerri, the state capital, Governor Uzodimma shared the depth of his emotions. "This victory is very dear to me because it is vindication that the same God who did it before will do it again," he declared, acknowledging the tumultuous journey that led him to this point.
"My good people of Imo State, I am humbled and honored by your overwhelming support in yesterday’s election," he continued. "Your trust in me to continue leading our dear State is both inspiring and deeply appreciated."
The governor emphasized that this victory not only secures his present term but also serves as a testament to the belief that he had rightfully won the Imo governorship election back in 2019. According to Uzodimma, it was only through the intervention of the Supreme Court that justice prevailed, allowing him to continue serving the people of Imo State.
As he stood before the congregation, Governor Uzodimma expressed his commitment to delivering on the promises made during the campaign. He recognized the challenges faced, the controversies that surrounded his tenure, and yet, with a renewed mandate, he vowed to lead Imo State to greater heights
