Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State suspends Special Adviser Bashir Ado for a premature announcement on an N70,000 minimum wage increase. Ado's statement, made before official approval, prompted an investigation by a committee tasked with assessing the situation and determining the wage policy's accurate status.
Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi has suspended his Special Adviser on Salary and Pensions, Alhaji Bashir Ado, over an alleged premature announcement concerning the approval of a new N70,000 minimum wage for state workers.
The suspension follows a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Mallam Bala Ibrahim, which clarified that any claim of an official wage increase was premature. The statement emphasized that a committee, led by the Head of the State Civil Service, is still assessing an appropriate wage and has not yet submitted its findings.
As a result, Ado’s suspension is in effect while a separate committee, chaired by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Bello Abdulkadir, investigates the statement's origin and intent. The committee, which includes other top officials such as the Commissioners for Information and Health, has been given two weeks to submit its report.
