Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State dismissed the ongoing debate surrounding the payment of ransom for the release of abducted Kuriga students, deeming it irrelevant. Speaking on Channel Television’s Sunday Politics, Governor Sani emphasized that the paramount concern was the safe return of the children, asserting that all of them had been rescued unhurt by the government.
The schoolchildren were abducted from LEA Primary School and Government Secondary School in Kuriga approximately four weeks ago, with their rescue announced by the Defence Headquarters on Saturday.
Refuting rumours of ransom payment, Governor Sani asserted that the focus should remain on the children's safety and reunion with their families, rather than engaging in speculative discussions.
He highlighted the government's discreet handling of the abduction, aiming to safeguard the lives of the innocent children. Additionally, Governor Sani clarified discrepancies in reported abduction figures, stating that 137, not 287, students were abducted on March 7, 2024, from Kuriga in the Chikun Local Government Area.
The governor emphasized the importance of the children's safe return over numerical disputes, expressing satisfaction at their safe recovery and dismissing exaggerated figures as unfounded speculations.
