Nigerian pilgrim, Tawakaltu Alako, tragically died after collapsing in her Makkah hotel. NAHCON confirmed the incident and extended condolences. The commission began airlifting pilgrims on May 15, with 20,154 of the 65,000 total pilgrims already in Saudi Arabia for the Hajj.

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has announced the death of a Nigerian pilgrim in Saudi Arabia. Muhammad Musa, NAHCON’s head of media operations, confirmed the incident in a press statement on Sunday.

The deceased, Tawakaltu Alako, was reported to have collapsed in her Makkah hotel on Saturday.
Garba Takware, chairman of the Kebbi pilgrims board, provided details on the incident, stating that Alako was on her way to collect food in the hotel when she suddenly slumped.

Despite being hale and hearty prior to the incident, she was unconscious by the time she was rushed to the hospital.

Takware emphasized that all arrangements for the pilgrims, including feeding, accommodation, and medical care, were in place and running smoothly. He remarked that the unfortunate incident was an act of God and beyond their control.

Jalal Arabi, NAHCON’s chairman, has extended his condolences to the Kebbi pilgrims board and the family of the deceased. NAHCON began airlifting pilgrims from Nigeria on May 15, and as of now, 20,154 out of the 65,000 pilgrims scheduled to be airlifted have arrived in Saudi Arabia for the Hajj.
