The police command in Niger has confirmed a heartbreaking tragedy in Minna, where five children tragically suffocated to death inside an abandoned car. DSP Wasiu Abiodun, the police public relations officer, revealed that the Kpakungu Division Office received a distressing report on Sunday evening.
The children, aged between five and 13, were found trapped in a Honda Civic vehicle at Gurara Albishir area. Despite efforts to rescue them, they succumbed to suffocation. Their bodies were later retrieved by their grieving parents.
Investigations are underway, with the owner of the vehicle summoned for questioning. According to a source in the neighborhood, the children inadvertently locked themselves in the car, which had been abandoned for over two years.
The devastating incident has shaken the community, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced child safety measures and awareness.
