Nigerian doctor and visual artist Dr. Fola David has set a new world record for the largest individual painting. On July 19, David surpassed the previous record of 629.98 square meters, held by Indian artist Ravi Soni, by covering 689 square meters. His ultimate goal is to exceed 1,000 square meters.
The record-breaking attempt, which started on July 16 at Onikan Stadium in Lagos, has attracted significant attention and support. Celebrities like Nigerian chef Hilda Baci and former presidential candidate Peter Obi have visited the stadium to encourage David. Baci provided supplies and food, while Obi offered personal commendation.
Dr. David’s alma mater, the University of Lagos, also honored him with an Award of Honour and Merit. The painting, titled "Unity in Diversity," aims to celebrate Nigeria's cultural diversity by depicting a map of the country with its various tribes represented through unique attire and art.
The ongoing attempt is set to conclude on July 21, with David’s artwork symbolizing the rich and diverse heritage of Nigeria. The project has gained widespread recognition and is a testament to David's dedication and artistic vision.
