In a horrifying incident, armed robbers attacked four banks in Otukpo town, Benue State, leading to the tragic deaths of at least eight people. Among the victims were three police officers, a vigilante member, and a councilor from Otukpo Ward 2 who was conducting business in one of the affected banks.
Eyewitnesses reported that the armed gang initially targeted the police station across from the banks, disarming all officers on duty before proceeding to rob the banks. The affected banks included Stanbic Bank, United Bank for Africa (UBA), Zenith Bank, and First Bank.
Residents described the robbers arriving in two Hilux vehicles and a smaller car, launching an assault that lasted over an hour. The attackers stormed the banks at around 3:30 pm on a Friday and carried out the robbery unchallenged until approximately 4:50 pm.
