At least 30 individuals, predominantly women and children, lost their lives in Plateau State during a gruesome attack on Kwahaslalek village in Mangu Local Government Area.
The victims sought refuge in the home of a community leader after facing unrest in Mangu town earlier in the day. Gunmen surrounded and mercilessly killed all of them, leaving the community in shock.
Mark Haruna, a community leader, confirmed the tragic death toll, emphasizing that the attack was strategically coordinated during a distraction in Mangu town. Joseph Gwankat, Chairman of the Mwaghavul Development Association, condemned the callous act and highlighted the lack of security presence.
The Plateau State Governor declared a 24-hour curfew in Mangu LGA due to the escalating security situation. This devastating incident comes amid the state's recovery from Christmas Eve attacks that claimed over 150 lives in multiple communities.
The Plateau State Police Command is yet to release an official report on the recent attack
