The House of Representatives has issued summons to Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, in an effort to address compensation and royalties related to the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad, who recently passed away in controversial circumstances. The House's Committee on Justice, Youth, and Legislative Compliance has also called upon the late singer's manager, Jiggy Adeoye, to participate in an interactive session scheduled for Tuesday.
This development followed a motion presented by Babajimi Benson, a member of the House representing the APC from Lagos, which urged a review of laws governing the entertainment industry and copyright regulations. Benson expressed concerns about the contracts and agreements that artists are often required to sign.
In a letter dated October 26, the House formally requested the presence of Naira Marley and Mohbad's manager to provide guidance and information to the committee for potential legislative actions. The letter was sent through the President of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria.
The House's actions reflect its commitment to addressing legal and financial concerns within the entertainment industry and ensuring that artists' rights and entitlements are properly protected
