The House of Representatives commenced its plenary session in Abuja by observing a moment of silence for the late Afrobeats sensation, Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad. Mohbad, who was only 27 years old, tragically passed away two weeks ago.
The tribute to the late musician occurred at the beginning of an executive session, following a motion of urgent importance presented by Mr. Babajimi Benson, the representative of the Ikorodu Federal Constituency.
During the session, the House resolved to closely monitor the ongoing investigation into Mohbad's untimely death and also assess the royalties owed to him. Benson emphasized the need for a comprehensive review of laws governing the entertainment industry, including copyright regulations. He expressed concerns regarding the contracts and agreements often imposed on entertainers.
This recognition by the House of Representatives highlights the significance of the Nigerian music industry and the challenges that artists, like Mohbad, face. It underscores the importance of protecting the rights and interests of entertainers in the country.
