The House of Representatives has tasked its Committee on Aviation with summoning former Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika. The objective is to garner insights into the status of the Nigeria Air project during his tenure.
The motion, presented by Tarkighir Dickson, highlighted the former minister's ambitious aviation roadmap and the promise to deliver the national carrier by the end of the previous administration.
Dickson revealed the involvement of Ethiopian Airlines and the issuance of an Air Transport License to Nigeria Air, raising concerns about the billions spent with unclear project status.
The House aims to prevent potential accountability issues and recurrent expenditures, directing the committee to also summon the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority for a comprehensive briefing on the Nigeria Air project and its certification.
The move comes after the suspension of the Nigeria Air project and airport concession plans by the current Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, in September.
