The United States Bureau of Prisons has announced an investigation into the actions of convicted internet fraudster Ramon “Hushpuppi” Abbas, following the circulation of a video purportedly showing him hosting a lavish feast at Fort Dix, New Jersey, where he is serving an 11-year sentence.
The feast was reported to be in celebration of the birthday of social media influencer Tunde Adekunle, known as Tunde Ednut. The video displayed an array of foods, including jollof rice and pasta, raising concerns about the conditions within the prison facility.
The U.S. Bureau of Prisons, taking the matter seriously, stated that its investigative department would lead the inquiry to determine the accuracy of the viral video. Hushpuppi, aged 41, was convicted in 2022 for his involvement in a multimillion-dollar international fraud scheme and was extradited to the U.S. after being arrested in Dubai.
Despite enrolling in prison educational courses and participating in facility cleaning to potentially earn a lighter sentence, his appeal for a reduction was recently dismissed by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. The investigation seeks to ascertain the facts surrounding the alleged feast and its implications for prison regulations.
