The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has accused Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma of sending thugs to attack the village of its president, Joe Ajaero. According to NLC's Head of Media and Information, Benson Upah, the attack on Azalla Owalla in Emekuku, the hometown of the NLC president, was an attempt to assassinate Ajaero. The NLC had previously reported an attack on Ajaero by thugs during a protest in Owerri, Imo State, on November 1.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the NLC condemned the attack on Ajaero and alleged that Governor Uzodinma's intent was to suppress and brutalize the NLC president. The statement called for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and address the situation, urging Uzodinma to respect human rights and democratic principles.
The situation in Imo State has raised concerns about political violence and the safety of labor leaders, as tensions between the state government and the NLC continue. The NLC remains resolute in its demand for justice and protection for its members.
