The National Industrial Court in Owerri, the capital of Imo state, has extended an interim injunction preventing the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) from going on strike in Imo state. The order also prevents them from carrying out a planned event known as "OCCUPY IMO."

The Attorney General of Imo State, Cyprian Akaolisa, sought this extension, citing a fresh threat from the NLC to embark on a strike in Imo starting from November 1, 2023. This comes despite a previous order restraining the defendants from going on strike.

The NLC and TUC, along with their respective secretaries-general, Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja and Comrade Nuhu Toro, were named as defendants in the case.

The court issued a warning against disobeying its order, emphasizing that there would be consequences for non-compliance. The matter has been adjourned to November 3, 2023, for either a hearing or a report on any potential settlement.

This development comes as a response to the ongoing labor disputes in the state
