The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has suspended the election in several locations in Kogi State due to reported incidents of electoral malpractices.
Notably, there were cases of result sheets being completed before the voting process, particularly in Adavi, Ajaokuta, Ogori/Magongo, Okehi, and Okene Local Government Areas.
The most severe irregularities were observed in Ogori/Magongo, affecting nine out of 10 Registration Areas. INEC deems these actions entirely unacceptable, emphasizing that results not originating from the Commission's prescribed process at the Polling Units will be rejected.
As a consequence, the election in the nine Wards of Ogori/Magongo LGA is currently suspended. Investigations into the incidents in other Local Government Areas are underway, with outcomes and future actions expected to be announced within the next 24 hours.
INEC affirms its commitment to protecting voters' rights and ensuring the integrity of the electoral process in Kogi State.
Sanctions will be applied as needed to address any complicity in undermining the electoral process.
