Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), has cautioned against irregular migration, emphasizing the need for proper documentation to avert "unpleasant consequences." The plea comes amid a surge in Nigerians migrating out of the country, commonly known as 'japa.'

Dabiri-Erewa conveyed her message during a visit to a shelter in Brampton, Canada, where she expressed sympathy for the conditions faced by asylum seekers. The NIDCOM boss urged those contemplating migration without proper documentation to reconsider, citing the increasingly challenging circumstances in many countries.

"It is just not worth it, more often than not," she added, highlighting the risks associated with undocumented migration. The statement underlines the broader concern surrounding irregular migration and echoes the commission's commitment to advocating for lawful and secure migration practices.
