South African footballer Luke Fleurs, aged 24, met a tragic end when he was shot dead in a carjacking incident at a petrol station in Johannesburg's suburb of Florida on Wednesday night. Fleurs, who was playing for PSL side Kaizer Chiefs, was awaiting service at the petrol station when gunmen ambushed him, ordering him out of his vehicle.
Despite complying, Fleurs was shot once in the upper body by one of the assailants, who fled the scene with his car. Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo confirmed the details, stating that the South African Police Service (SAPS) is investigating the incident.
