Details have emerged about Emir Sanusi's meeting with security chiefs regarding the Kano Emirate crisis, revealing his stance on court orders and the reinstatement process.
Amidst the ongoing crisis surrounding the Kano Emirate, top security officials held crucial meetings with the recently reinstated Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi, and the deposed Emir, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, on Saturday. The meetings came in the wake of heightened tensions after the Kano State Assembly repealed the Emirate Council law, which had previously led to Sanusi's removal in 2020.
Governor Abba Yusuf, who had assented to the new law, ordered the affected Emirs to vacate their palaces within 48 hours. While four Emirs complied, Ado Bayero returned to Kano and moved into the palace at Nassarawa with heavy military protection, defying the governor's order.
Irked by this development, Governor Yusuf ordered Ado Bayero's arrest, but the police stated that they would comply with a court order restricting the state government from reinstating Sanusi.
According to sources present at the meeting between Sanusi and the security chiefs, including the Police Commissioner, Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Army Brigade Commander, and National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) commander, the Emir challenged the validity of the court order.
"The emir, who spoke for over an hour during the meeting, told us that what the state government had done was justice against the injustice meted out to him in the past," the source told Daily Trust. "He told us that he had not seen the court order we were referring to, describing it as a media court order until he sees it."
Sanusi's defiant stance and questioning of the court order's legitimacy have raised concerns about the potential escalation of the crisis. The dispute highlights the delicate balance between traditional institutions and political authorities in the region.
After receiving his reinstatement letter from Governor Yusuf, Sanusi had earlier stated that his return shows that no man can change what God has destined, emphasizing the role of divine intervention in the unfolding events.
As the situation remains tense, calls for a peaceful resolution and respect for the rule of law have intensified, with all eyes fixed on Kano, where the power struggle between traditional and political forces continues to unfold.
