Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, confirmed that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is conducting a thorough investigation into the contentious Nigeria Air deal.
The deal, orchestrated by the former Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, on behalf of the Nigerian government, took a dramatic turn on May 26, 2023, when a plane belonging to Nigeria Air landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
Despite initial optimism, Keyamo, on August 31, 2023, announced the suspension of Nigeria Air, citing concerns about the deal's long-term implications for the country. Speaking on Channels Television's Politics Today, Keyamo asserted that the EFCC's criminal investigation is underway, focusing on the intricate details of the agreement. He emphasized the deal's inadequacy, branding it as Ethiopian Air merely flying the Nigerian flag and not a true national carrier.
As the inquiry progresses, Keyamo remains resolute in establishing a genuine national carrier, redefining Nigeria's aviation landscape.
