Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, NNPP leader and former presidential candidate, expresses deep concern over Northern Nigeria's power crisis caused by vandalism of key power lines. He calls for urgent investments in alternative energy sources to alleviate ongoing blackouts, exacerbated by rising fuel costs impacting homes and industries.

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and the 2023 presidential candidate, has voiced his concerns about the ongoing power crisis affecting Northern Nigeria. In a recent post, he highlighted the significant impact of vandalism on the 330kV Shiroro-Kaduna power line, which is crucial for supplying electricity to states like Kano and Kaduna, as well as to Bauchi and Gombe in the northeast.

Kwankwaso pointed out that many regions remain in darkness, exacerbated by the rising costs of petrol and diesel, which have forced homes and factories to shut down. He criticized the slow response to the crisis, emphasizing that it reflects the power sector's deficiencies in managing large-scale issues.

He urged a shift toward alternative energy sources to meet the region's growing electricity demands, advocating for investments from state governments and private entities. Kwankwaso cited successful initiatives in Kano, where two turbines were installed at the Challawa Gorge and Tiga Dams to reduce dependence on outdated power infrastructure.
