Amidst escalating tensions between the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the LP, has condemned the NLC's actions on Wednesday as a "show of shame" and "rascality."
In a statement by Obiora Ifoh, the LP National Publicity Secretary, Abure decried the NLC's picketing of the LP National Secretariat in Abuja, labeling it as an abuse of office and law. He accused the NLC of unlawfully seizing the Secretariat, destroying property worth millions, and even stealing funds designated for salaries and official purposes.
Abure expressed disappointment in Joe Ajaero, the NLC President, alleging that the NLC's actions were undermining the LP's successes in the 2023 general election and hindering efforts to improve the country. He vehemently denied the NLC's claim of ownership over the LP, asserting that the party was not under NLC's jurisdiction.
Abure clarified that the LP had followed due process in planning its convention, engaging stakeholders, and communicating with relevant authorities. The LP leader's remarks reflect a deepening rift between the NLC and LP, highlighting broader tensions within Nigerian labor and political spheres.
