The Labour Party (LP) has expressed its disappointment with the Supreme Court's verdict affirming President Bola Tinubu's victory in the February 25 presidential election. LP National Chairman Julius Abure criticized the decision, accusing the court of disregarding justice and good conscience. The case revolved around LP presidential candidate Peter Obi's appeal, in which he challenged Tinubu's victory and called for the disqualification of Vice President Kashim Shettima due to double nomination. Justice John Okoro, leading the Supreme Court panel, ruled against Obi's appeal, stating that the matter had already been addressed when it was before a lower court.
The Supreme Court also dismissed the appeal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, challenging Tinubu's victory. Abure expressed the LP's shock and dismay at the verdict and lamented the court's failure to uphold justice. Nevertheless, he stated the LP's commitment to moving forward and remaining optimistic about the nation's future. Abure criticized the institutions for not robustly defending democracy and the people's voices in the face of flawed judgments, and he expressed hope for the future despite the disappointment in the court's decision.
