Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu urges residents to avoid participating in the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest, reflecting on the damages from the 2020 EndSARS protests. He argues that patience and support for President Tinubu's economic policies are needed for progress, not demonstrations that could disrupt the state's recovery.
Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has urged residents to reconsider participating in the upcoming #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest, highlighting the severe damages from the 2020 EndSARS protest. Speaking on Wednesday, Sanwo-Olu questioned the effectiveness of protests in addressing Nigeria’s challenges, suggesting they may undo recent socio-economic gains. He emphasized the need for patience with President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, which he believes will yield benefits in due time.
Sanwo-Olu warned that another protest could lead to further destruction, reminding Lagosians of the 2020 EndSARS protest that began peacefully but was hijacked by violent elements, resulting in significant loss of life, property destruction, and disruption of businesses. He detailed the extensive damages, including the burning of the Lagos High Court, police stations, local government offices, and other public assets.
Sanwo-Olu stressed that Lagos is still recovering from these events and cautioned against actions that could exacerbate the situation. He called for unity in pursuing a peaceful and prosperous Lagos, highlighting the broader consequences of unrest on community confidence, tourism, foreign investment, and overall progress. The governor’s address comes as the federal government and President Tinubu also appeal to youths to reconsider the planned 10-day protest.
