EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede has ordered the arrest of two officers involved in the manhandling of a female hotel staff in Lagos. The incident, captured on CCTV, occurred during a sting operation. Olukoyede assured a thorough investigation and adherence to the rule of law.
In a decisive move to uphold the integrity of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Executive Chairman Mr. Ola Olukoyede has ordered the immediate arrest of two officers allegedly involved in the manhandling of a female staff member at Regional Hotel in Ojo, Lagos.
The incident, which was captured on Closed Circuit Television (CCTV), has sparked widespread outrage after a video began trending online. The footage shows EFCC officials, dressed in plainclothes, forcefully entering a room at the hotel. A hotel worker, who was trying to open the door from inside, was seen being aggressively confronted by the officers. One of the men slapped the lady before ordering her out of the room.
In a statement, EFCC spokesperson Wilson Uwujaren explained that the incident occurred during an early morning sting operation aimed at arresting suspects. "The operation led to the arrest of a sizable number of suspects who are still being profiled," Uwujaren said.
Reacting swiftly to the public outcry and the undeniable evidence of misconduct, Olukoyede has not only ordered the arrest of the involved officers but also initiated a detailed investigation into the operation. "The EFCC’s boss has also ordered detailed investigations of the operation carried out at the hotel and assured that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken against any of the officers found to be culpable," the statement read.
Olukoyede further assured the public that the EFCC remains committed to executing its duties professionally and with respect for the rule of law. "Olukoyede assures the general public that the EFCC would continue to ply its job professionally and with profound respect for the rule of law."
