In a harrowing incident on Saturday afternoon, a gas explosion wreaked havoc in the Ikotun area of Lagos State, reducing at least seven shops to ashes in a mini-market at 2nd Junction, Governor’s Road, Council Bus Stop in Ikotun.

Margaret Adeseye, Director at the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, revealed that the explosion originated from a gas cylinder leakage within one of the shops, rapidly spreading to seven neighboring shops. Multiple emergency agencies swiftly responded to manage the crisis, with preliminary investigations pointing to negligence during the gas cylinder refill as the likely cause.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the explosion's aftermath, highlighting the critical need for heightened safety measures in such environments. The incident underscores the potential risks posed by lax practices during gas handling and calls for increased awareness and vigilance in preventing future tragedies.
