Actress Laide Bakare was fined for a traffic violation after a dispute with Lagos police over a BRT lane incident involving her daughter. Police deny mistreatment, and confirm she paid a N70,000 fine.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, addressed an incident involving actress Laide Bakare, stating she was fined for driving in the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lane on the Ikorodu Expressway.
Hundeyin clarified on his verified Twitter handle that Bakare's vehicle was impounded after she allegedly created a scene and initially refused compliance. He refuted Bakare's claims that police drove away with her 14-year-old daughter, explaining she chose to stay outside her car while it was towed to the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) office.
The police denied any physical altercation, asserting Bakare paid a N70,000 fine for the traffic offense. Bakare criticized the police on social media, alleging exploitation and the wrongful detainment of her daughter.
