The Digest:

The Lagos State Government has announced the reintroduction of monthly environmental sanitation, resuming on April 25. The exercise will be held on the last Saturday of every month from 6:30 am to 8:30 am, during which movement will be restricted for residents to clean their surroundings. The exercise returned nearly a decade after it was suspended in November 2016 following a court ruling. Defaulters will face sanctions under the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law of 2017.

Key Points:
  • Enforcement will be carried out by a joint team from multiple agencies.
  • LAWMA will provide trucks to evacuate bagged waste during the exercise.
  • Rewards will be given for the cleanest LGA, LCDA, and street.
  • The clarification follows a symbolic launch in March along Mushin–Agege Motor Road.
  • Residents who fail to comply face sanctions.
Lagos residents are urged to participate as the government reintroduces the monthly sanitation exercise.
