The Lagos State Government has taken action against waste disposal offenses, sealing both the Ajah Market and Ogba City Mall. This enforcement came in response to what the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) described as "sundry waste disposal offences." A joint team consisting of LAWMA, the State Task Force on Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences, LASTMA, and LAGSEC (KAI) conducted the operation.
Folashade Kadiri, the Director of Public Affairs for LAWMA, issued a statement about the closure, stating that the action was a part of the government's efforts to maintain a clean and healthy environment. In addition to sealing these locations, the enforcement team also cleared shanties and illegal traders' structures in the Ajah BRT corridor and around the Ajah Jubilee Bridge.
The Lagos State Environment and Water Resources Commissioner, Tokunbo Wahab, emphasized that this move is part of the government's zero tolerance for filth and reckless waste disposal by markets and businesses. The Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, encouraged business owners and markets to adopt responsible waste disposal practices, stressing that the zero-tolerance campaign is an ongoing effort to ensure a clean and healthy environment for all.
