In a recent development, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has taken decisive action against corruption within its ranks. Following recommendations by the Personnel Management Board, LASTMA terminated the employment of five officials involved in corruption, while two others received letters of reprimand for unauthorized absence.
According to Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, these actions were in line with the rules set by the Lagos State Civil Service Commission. Acting General Manager Bakara Oki Olalekan emphasized that public cooperation is crucial in improving the agency's efficiency. He urged road users to adhere to traffic laws, assuring that complaints about LASTMA officials would be promptly and impartially investigated.
Simultaneously, 14 other indicted LASTMA officials are undergoing administrative review. Taofiq highlighted the importance of these measures for achieving a "Greater Lagos" and realizing Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's objectives in traffic management.
The developments reflect a commitment to accountability within LASTMA, aligning with broader efforts to enhance traffic management and transportation in Lagos. As the agency addresses internal issues, it encourages public engagement to create a safer and more efficient road environment.
