Leah Sharibu, the Nigerian schoolgirl held in captivity by terrorists for five years, has reportedly married another ISWAP (Islamic State West Africa Province) commander, following her divorce from her first 'husband.' Leah, abducted alongside 109 other female students on February 19, 2018, from the Government Girls’ Science and Technical College in Dapchi, Yobe State, had been forcibly married to Abdulrahman.
However, it was reported that she secured a divorce and remarried Ali Abdallah, another ISWAP commander in the Lake Chad area. The circumstances leading to her divorce and second marriage remain unclear.
Leah's ordeal in captivity took a new turn as she was trained in medical services to assist injured Boko Haram fighters and women. She now leads the ISWAP medical team in the northern part of Lake Chad.
Recently, Leah, her supposed husband, and other fighters were spotted at Dogon Chukwun Kangarwa. Her husband, an ISWAP commander, is facing persecution from a Boko Haram commander loyal to Shekau, named Malam Bakura. Reports also suggest that a large contingent of ISWAP fighters has been migrating from the area with a cache of dangerous arms, possibly indicating a shift in the dynamics of conflict among these militant groups.
