Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the former Acting Governor of Ondo State, has officially become the substantive governor, taking the oath of office in a ceremony at the Governor's Office in Akure, the state capital.
Chief Judge Justice Olusegun Odusola administered the oath, solidifying Aiyedatiwa's leadership following the passing of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu on Wednesday. Akeredolu, battling prostate cancer, had transferred power to Aiyedatiwa via a letter to the state House of Assembly on December 13, 2023, ahead of his medical leave in Germany.
The inauguration was attended by key figures, including the Speaker of the House of Assembly, state executive council members, and party leaders. Aiyedatiwa formally assumed office, signing the Oath Register at 5:19pm, and is currently delivering his inaugural address.
This marks a crucial transition for Ondo State as Aiyedatiwa takes the helm of leadership.
